Hunters Asked to Report Banded Birds
#1
North Dakota hunters are asked to report banded waterfowl taken during the 2004 season.
Hunters can report a duck or goose band by calling 1-800-327-BAND, or online at the U.S. Geological Survey's web site www.pwrc.usgs.gov/bbl/. Required information includes how, when, and where the bird was recovered, type of species, and the band number.
Bird banding data is useful in both research and management projects. Individual identification of birds allows for studies of dispersal and migration, behavior and social structure, life-span and survival rate, reproductive success and population growth.
