Perch fishing on the central Oregon coast is fair with small catches of redtail surf perch, silver, stripped and white sea perch off jetties and sandy beaches. Fishing for perch is poor in estuaries.
Surf fishing for redtail surfperch continues to be fair coast wide when seas allow.
Coastal jetty fishing continues to be fair to poor coast wide.
Charter boats: Halibut and tuna trips are doing fair with tuna reported at 35-40 miles offshore on the central coast.
A limited sport bottomfish opportunity outside the 40-fathom line will open Friday, Oct.1, and go to Oct. 31. This season was negotiated by Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife through the Pacific Fisheries Management Council to allow a harvest in the Oregon marine zone. This fishery primarily will be for yellowtail rockfish. It also offers opportunities for other species, such as sablefish and various flatfish.
Several catches of yellowtail jacks were caught 50 miles offshore by the tuna fleet out of Newport . A sail fish was spotted among the tuna fleet. Albacore and other tuna are found about 30 miles offshore.
Anglers at Bandon and Gold Beach are landing anchovy, shad and sardine. The rest of the coastal catches are sporadic and consist mainly of sardine.
