S.C. NATURE-BASED TOURISM ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE NOV. 8-9 IN MONCKS CORNER
#1
The annual South Carolina nature-based tourism conference will be held Nov. 8-9 at Short Stay in Moncks Corner.
The theme of South Carolina's 2004 nature-based tourism conference is "Networking for New Ideas." The conference is sponsored by the South Carolina Nature-Based Tourism Association (SCNBTA), Santee Cooper Country, Discover Upcountry Carolina and the Berkeley County Chamber of Commerce.
Everyone is welcomed to attend. To register, send a check for $45, made out to SCNBTA, in care of Richard Mikell, 1107 State St., Cayce SC 29033 or call (803) 796-4505 to register by credit card. Include name, mailing address, e-mail, phone number and any special dietary requirements. Call (800) 447-2178 for overnight accommodations at Short Stay. Two-bedroom cabins are $57 per night, for NBTA Conference attendees. All meals and activities are included in the registration fee, and the deadline is Nov. 1.
The agenda for the South Carolina Nature-Based Tourism Association (SCNBTA) annual conference will include topics of interest to nature-based operators. Speakers will show conference participants how to develop a river trail, using the Berkeley County Initiative as an example. The Wadboo Creek and Swamp Kayak and Canoe tour will be offered as a "hands-on" follow up. Other field trips offered will be Captain Bo Gator's Swamp and History tour, and a tour of Cypress Gardens is also available.
Cherie Had, of Cherie Had Communications, will provide insight on how to find that elusive travel writer who can make a big difference in popularity among potential clients. Another topic will be how to "E-Market" a Web site. Also to be covered is how to partner with a Destination Marketing Organization.
The SCNBTA exists to manage, and to market nature-based businesses and tourism. The organization endorses conservation of natural and cultural resources that make the nature-based tourism experience possible. The S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR), which has numerous properties that are nature-based tourism destinations, such as heritage preserves and wildlife management areas, supports efforts to educate nature-based tourism operators. For more information on the SCNBTA, visit www.SCNatureAdventures.com or call Richard Mikell at (803) 796-4505 or e-mail RMikell@AdventureCarolina.com.educate.
