Fishing Report<br>Lake Tohopekaliga (Lake Toho)<br>By: Captain Chuck Matthews<br>May 13, 2001<br><br>Fishing is really picking up. The Red Man Tournament this last weekend only took 11<br>pounds to win but the winds were up and there was a cold front. Now on Wednesday<br>night, the local tournament from 5:30pm until 8:30pm took 23 pounds. to win. Not bad<br>for three hours of fishing. The boat canals on the east side of the lake are holding fish. <br>Also there is hydrilla toping off. On the west side of the lake in open water there have<br>been some schooling fish inside of Goblet’s Cove. Your bigger fish are still coming from<br>open water in about five to six feet over hydrilla. But you can catch nice limits of fish on<br>the inside in skinny water. Also, the Kissimmee grass on the outside edge are holding<br>flipping fish. I have been seeing a lot of nice fish busting bait in heavy grasses. The key to<br>open water fish is finding the green hydrilla that has not been effected by the dropping of<br>pellets to kill it off. The fish seem to be concentrating in these areas. We are still catching<br>some fish that are still full of row that have not spawned out yet. The water level is still<br>good. On Toho, look for clean water and stay out of the water where you see dying<br>weeds that are brown.
