Salmon River October out look
#1
This October on the Salmon River looks to be the best in years. We have had large numbers of kings moving throughout the entire river for a week now. The mid-upper river has loads of spawning salmon, with more and more showing up daily. The large runs that started Columbus day weekend have slowed slightly, but there are still fresh fish on the move. With a good amounts of fish still in the estuary I expect at least one more large run. If we get the rain we are supposed to it will happen soon. This should be the last "big" weekend crowd wise. Steelies and brown trout action is steadily picking up, so it's looking pretty good for Nov. Get the noodle rods ready and remember the steelhead limit is one on all Lake Ontario tributaries. This will help our winter fishery be better than it has been the last few years. If you keep a steelie you can keep fishing you just have to release the rest. Please do it with care- wet your hands before handling- don't keep them out of the water for to long- and revive them with there head upstream into the current, give them enough time to pull/swim away on there own.
Good luck
