Tundra Swan Information Hotline Available
#1
PIERRE, S.D. – An information phone line about South Dakota’s current tundra swan migration is available from Game, Fish and Parks offices in Watertown, Aberdeen and Webster.
Senior Secretary Monica Kwasniewski of Watertown said the hotline will help swan hunters learn when swans have arrived and where they may be found during their migration through the state.
"Each Thursday, conservation officers will report information about swan concentrations in their area," she said. "Swan hunters can access the information via the hotline, which is active daily from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m., and around-the-clock during weekends," she said.
Kwasniewski added that a phone number from the Sand Lake National Wildlife Refuge is also available 24 hours a day to assist with waterfowl migration information.
"We want to provide information on the swan migration in a way that's convenient for hunters, while giving our field officers a little relief from the telephone. Because we will be operating the hotline from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m., hunters can call in the evening after they get off work or in the morning before they go hunting. They can also call during weekends when our offices are closed," she said.
