Rainbow trout plants in Clark County’s waters will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 23, with plants scheduled to take place in Las Vegas area urban ponds, Lake Mead, Lake Mohave and in a small pond near Mt. Charleston, according to the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW).
Clyde Park, manager of Lake Mead Hatchery, said more than 255,000 trout will be stocked into Clark County’s waters from late November through mid March. Since the hatchery is currently closed for renovation, fish for the plants will come from other NDOW hatcheries and from commercial growers.
Plans call for the Nov. 23 plants to take place in ponds at Floyd Lamb State Park, Lorenzi Park and Sunset Park in Las Vegas and Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City and at Cold Creek Pond in the Spring Mountains northwest of Las Vegas. Plants that day also will be held at Power Line Cove on Lake Mohave and at Hemenway Cove, Horsepower Cove, Pumphouse Cove and North Saddle Cove on Lake Mead.
The four locations on Lake Mead will be stocked weekly through mid March. Plants for the urban ponds and for Power Line Cove, Placer Cove, Cottonwood Cove and Willow Beach on Lake Mohave will be held every other week.
Stocking information that is updated weekly can be obtained by calling a recorded message at Lake Mead Hatchery at (775) 486-6738.
