GFP Commission To Hold Public Hearing On License Fees
#1
PIERRE, S.D. - The Game, Fish and Parks Commission will hold a second public hearing on a set of license fee changes that were initially finalized in August.
The process for establishing the fees was questioned by the Legislative Rules Review committee and kept from becoming official rule changes.
"The commission feels they followed the rules process and acted appropriately in passing the set of fee changes," said Chuck Schlueter, communications manager for the Division of Wildlife. "However, as long as the adoption of these rules are held up, the commission also felt it would be appropriate to give the public an additional chance to comment on the fee change package."
The fee changes involve some of the general hunting and fishing licenses, falconry permits, fur dealer licenses and taxidermist permits.
"The commission requested the fee adjustments as part of a fee review process they have implemented," Schlueter said. "The commission plans to review license fees every two or three years to make sure fee income is in line with budget needs. It is their hope that traditional large fee increases can be avoided in favor of smaller, incremental increases."
Those interested may comment on the fee increases in writing or by presenting oral testimony at the Nov. 4 commission meeting. The meeting will be held at the Ramkota in Pierre, with the public hearing at 2 p.m. Written testimony can be mailed to Game, Fish and Parks, 523 East Capitol Avenue, Pierre, S.D. 57501, or by e-mailing wildinfo@state.sd.us.
