Scofield report 11-30
#1

I had a suprise day off and headed up to Scofield. Arrived at 10:00 AM to cold but otherwise excellent conditions. I fished near the dam. There is currently 4-5 inches of clear, solid ice at the location I was at. Little wind, and sunny skies. The fishing was excellent. A large number of the 6-10 inch fall planter bows were in the area and provided constant action the whole day. Mixed in with these were some bigger trout up to 17 inches and a couple of smallish cutts. I used mainly small worm peices on rat finkies and a flasher spoon. They weren't particularly fussy though. I ended up landing 7-8 of the larger 13-17 inch trout and an innumerable number of the small planters. There were a couple of guys where fuzzyfisher was yesterday, but no one by me. I left at 4 PM. A phenomenal way to kick off the ice season.[Smile] Good luck to all this weekend.

[cool]Thanks for the report, doggonefishin'. I might be headed there on Saturday. You said that there were some others fishing where fuzzyfisher was yesterday?

Wow! Makes you wonder if they are BFT lurkers, who do nothing but take from this site and never give. That's quite a coincidence. Most anglers in this state don't even know that Scofield is frozen over yet. About the only people that drive by there are the coal mine trucks.[crazy]

Good to hear about your good day of fishing, better than Deer Creek ,huh. Did you use your finder to find the fish and how deep were you? I have never ice fished Scofield and looking forward to hitting this season. Nice report.

hey doggone were you north or south of where Don and I was fishing?
duh just looked at your post again and noted you were fishing the dam area.. so you had to be north of where we were fishing..

Don and i did not catch any fish that was under 13" and one cutt that was around 22".. i wonder if it was the area we were fishing..or if it was the bigger fish were hungry and pushing the smaller fish out? or maybe the bigger fish were keying in on the minnows?

looks like cleveland today scofield tomorow.. my buddy just called and wants to go to scofiled tomorow.. so I might as well go give cleveland or e-lake a try..

dude on fish?

Kastmaster, I was in 16 feet of water and the majority of the fish were 8-12 feet deep. I was using the finder and the smaller fish would come through and just black out the screen. It was cool. I am working this weekend but maybe we can hook up next week.
Fuzzyfisher, I got the impression that these planter fish just hadn't dispersed very much from being planted. They were in large schools and maybe they hadn't worked their way out out of the narrow dam area into the main lake. I'll have to look up when they did the fall planting there.

Thank you and thanks CBR. That was the size of the fish I was encountering yesterday, although a few of the larger planters went up to 10 inches. One question, Did the DWR have multiple plants of identical fish size and numbers on each of those four days, or were they double entered on the report? Or did a staffer have Little Caesers pizza-pizza for lunch[Tongue]).
