Coit Electric Reel
#1
Hi all, I have a Coit Electric Reel Model E. I was wondering if anyone has any information on these reels or a manual. I would like to find out what the value is also. It is new in the box and doesn't have a scratch on it. Thanks, Sandman

I did a search for coit reels

unfortunatly my search engins turnd up nothing,

this can be for a number of reasons

first and most likely is that coit is a modle name of the reel and was manufactured by another company

second and a good probability is that coit is manufatured in another country (not USA)

third and a good chance But not likely is that coit reels has not developed a website of their own

forth although it is plausable but not probable is that coit has gone out of business. I say not probable concidering that electric reels are relitively new on the market and are making a climb in their favor amounst deep sea fisherman.

so to give you sum idea of the worth of electric reels I have included a couple links to where you can find them.

prices range any where from $50.oo to $2000.oo [#800080]http://ww2.choicemall.com/technotren/[/#800080] [#800080]http://www.electric-fishing-reels.com/electricreelpages.htm[/#800080] http://utenti.lycos.it/Kristalfishing/ sorry this is not the answer you are looking for but with out all the information on the box (boxes usualy include manufactrue's name or name of the corporation that sells the product) or what is stamped on the reel. you may want to take a picture of it and post it here if there is no information on the box (I would find that hard to beleive) post it on this string so with out any more information about the reel I cant do any more research on that particular name. here is a couple of links for people who have antique reel sites or seeking to perchas antique reels. http://www.antiquereels.com/ http://www.antiquefishingreels.com/ http://antiquefishingreels.info/why.htm

I did a search for coit reels also and my search engins turnd up nothing also. I have found out recently that Coit was made about 40 years ago and that they were made in the U.S.A. in Mendota California by Coit Electric Reel Co. The way that I get the story is that they made 100 reels and got a patent but couldn't sell them. I dont know why they couldn't sell them but that is the story that I got. Maybe they were before their time and no one wanted them?

Gents, I have information about Coit fishing tackle. Mr.Coit was a citrus grower south of San Jose and every year he would have to round up a new crew to care for the trees and harvest the fruit. He cam upon a business idea that he would offer his buyers a fishing reel, rod or combo. Not satisfied with commercially produced equipment he trained his agricultural crew to make this equipment. The "Electric" part of the Coit reel is that barrel affair on tne front of the reel. This when switched on activated a magnetic anti reverse in the reel. The problem with the reel was when the users got back from a fishing trip they simply put the outfit up till they went fishing again. As we know the batterys of that eara were leak prone to say the lease. Many of the used Coit Electrics have severe corrsion in that barell. Later in his production he kept the "Electric" reel name but he put a rubber shim in the barell so a battery would not make contact. This is most likely that there are no patents on the reel. He also made rods, Coit Fishing Pole Club pins and sponsored a book about fishing basics for kids. He allwoed the public to fish on ponds on his property. These items were made in the late 50s and early 60s. I have a complete collection of the later model reels and one of the earlier ones (used) it has the typical corrosion. I am looking for a Coit fishing pole or other Coit equipment so if you have a lead let me know. I will send contact information.

Sandman, Take the screw cap off of the barell and shine a light inside so you can see the bottom. If you see a rubber shim (black) down there and perhaps one in the cap. This is a later model. If you have NIB Coits that have no shims and the magnetic antireverse is still intact. These are more valuable. My NIB reels just had a paper wrapping, handle, tool and reel, I have not seen or heard of any papers on this reel.

Hi- just wanted to add a little info- I have the Blue reel in blue box, brand new in box, my brother has a red--or pink if you will, he uses his as the bearing system is pretty good for throwing in a lead core lake troller. We got them as gifts from my Cousin in law (A Farmer in Madera Ca.) whos father was good friends with Frank Coit. As someone said the reel never took off or perfected as an electric reel as we might think but more of a magnetic anti backlash. My cousin had about 7 or 8 of them so he gave one to me and my brother. He also gave me a book From the Coit fishing pole club called- Beginner's Book of FISHING by john McCallum and Dave Stidolph Produced in 1958 and has a sale price printed as $3.50- The reel is such a wonerfull anidizing that it is easily mistaken for modern tech. The idea should have made him millions and just looking at it i said wow what a cool idea- but it turned out like one of those as seen on TV gimmicks that never really worked. It is very rare and who can put a worth to It? Other than you.
I have no children to hand it down to-Make me an offer
