EAST CAPE AND MAGDALENA BAY FISHING CONDITIONS

EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

IN GENERAL: Plenty of tuna and the group from The Reel Life, Santa Fe, NM,
found out how tough they can be. At last count some five flylines had been
lost. They did manage to catch enough for sushi at the hotel each night.
Dorado continues to be hit or miss for the fly rodder. We had five boats out
yesterday and one came home with the bacon, oops I mean dorado. Only a few
roosterfish close to shore were accounted for this week.

AIR & SEA - By Sun. (10/6) the north wind had backed off and we were back
to the normal afternoon breezes out of the east.
Temperature 93° F / 72° F
Humidity 74%
Wind Calm
Conditions Partly Cloudy (BKN) : (FEW) : 20000 ft
Sunrise 7:13 AM MDT
Sunset 6:59 PM MDT

Water Temps in the mid- to upper-80's offshore.

· OFFSHORE: Tuna held the limelight with a steady bite all week. Sailfish
were less plentiful this week but there was an increase in the number of
blues and stripes for the week.

· INSHORE: Some large skipjacks and a few schoolie dorados.
On the rooster and jack front, it was slow
· BEACH: The mainstay of the beach this week was a wide open ladyfish bite
that kept things interesting in between the few roosters and jacks that
showed.

BILLFISH - Fair to good.

YELLOWFIN TUNA - As expected the bite has built all month.

DORADO - Good for some and so-so for many of the flyfishers.

ROOSTERFISH - Still plenty of sardina along the shore to attract some of the
smaller fish.

JACK CREVALLE - A few bigger ones out at Punta Arena

BARRILETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - Schools throughout Las Palmas Bay all the
way to Las Fralies

PARGO AND CABRILLA - Lots of smaller ones around the sticks at the arroyo
next to Scott Glenn's.

SIERRA - No takers this week.

MAGDALENA BAY, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

Sat., October 12, 2002

IN GENERAL: Right on time, here come the "stripeys". Reports from both the
locals and the yachts traveling down the coast have been encouraging and I am
looking forward to going up there next week. Some of the yachts reported
multiples on a straight line below the Thetis and above Cabo Lazaro. Some of
the locals fishing five miles outside of the Entrada found a pretty good wad
of dorado and then are you ready for this? They caught several inside the bay
near the Entrada. That's a new one on me! Up in the esteros things are
heating up as well with some decent snook fishing near Devil's Curve. Several
larger fish got the best of anglers by getting wrapped up in some of the
roots. Corvina continued to bite well throughout the bay. A few halibut were
still around for those who targeted them.

Water Temperature 72 - 79
Temperature 82° F - 72 °F
Humidity 98%
Wind Calm with some wind in the afternoon
Conditions Clear
Sunrise 7:22 AM MDT
Sunset 7:06 PM MDT

YELLOWTAIL - A few at the entrada.

CORVINA - A few smaller fish spread out throughout the bay. Pier at San
Carlos and the bridge are your best bet.

SNOOK - Picked up this week with good catches at Devil's Curve.

HALIBUT - Sandy beaches the best

SIERRA - Pretty quiet.
