Ice Fishing Tournaments
#1
Its time to get them sleds, shanties. Augers and what nots out and get them cleaned painted and sharpened. (Don’t forget to put that new TV antenna on the ice shanties so Zeb doesn’t have to stand out side with two fishing poles this winter pretending to be an antenna. that way he can see the super bowl game too)

this also means it is time to get them Ice Fishing Tourneys off the ground if you haven’t already done so.

I am putting my little Ice Fishing Tourney for kids together; I am expecting it to take place on one of the last two-week ends of January. the date cant be settled yet because I am waiting on conformation of the winter free fishing weekend of Michigan.

Last year we did not have one because of lack of Ice. I am expecting an icy winter this year.

My tourneys in the past have run any where from 10 to 50 participants (kids+parents)

If any one else is having a Ice Fishing Tourney or know of one in your neighborhood and can spare a minute to share the info, Please post it here. We would even like to hear strike-by-strike accounts of the events if possible.

Davetclown,
Post your request on the wyoming forum. Around this area the major ice fishing derbys take place across the state line in the cowboy state. Thats great you are doing something to get the kids involved in fishing. Its really turned into a family event around here on the ice. My retired dad even gets mom out on the ice acouple times a year. I really enjoy seeing the kids excitement when their fish is flopping on the ice. Seeing kids excited about fishing is a reward in its self!

[#a00040]Eastern Manitoba[/#a00040] [#0000ff]Join us at St. Georges Voyageur's Fifth Annual Ice Fishing Tournament[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][Image: voyageur.gif][/#0000ff] [ul] Come on Down and Dangle a Line on February 28th, 2003

Winners will take home a first place cash prize for the heaviest catch of the day. The 2nd to 25th winners will receive cash or prizes.

Competitors may enter the ice area at 8:00 a.m. Fishing runs from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. Please arrive early to ensure yourself a great hole. Signs will be posted along the highway to ensure you find us.

Rarin' to go? A horn will sound to begin and end the tournament. All iceholes are pre-drilled. You need only focus on catching the big one.

If you need more ammunition to catch that monster fish, live and frozen bait will be available on the ice. Don't sweat it if your thermos is empty early! A canteen will be set up for your convenience.

The operators of this Ice Fishing tournament encourage all fishermen to consider ethical fishing practices and conservation whenever and wherever they are fishing. This is a catch and release tournament and all Manitoba Angling rules apply. [/ul]

[cool] Dave, I've been to the brainard tournament, and the eel pout festival in Walker! Both are very fun events, with the brainard one being the biggest ice derby in the nation I belive. Lots of good prizes (trucks, snowmobiles, atvs, fishhouses , and yes, money ! The pout festival is a tourney that should be seen by all icefisherman, Its just not a contest, it a show of fishhouses, Ones that have a upstairs, decks, hot tubs, a 3by5 fish tank, with fish in it, a fountain in one, the classic fishhouse show case. these will get your mind thinking !. since the pout bite at nite, there is alot of games to be played during the day, snow bowling, pulling lazyboys around by snowmobiles, women in bikinis, and anything eles you can think of !and yes , theres beer for you beer drinkers ! got to go , Flagmanonice
