Blank lures
#1
[unsure] ...

Well, with the changing of the seasons, I shift gears on how I spend my own personal time. And this winter, I have an idea I'd like to pursue. To get started with it, I thought that I would ask you all for your ideas.

I have an idea for some lures that I would like to make for wipers at Willard. I would like to find a source for new, unpainted, unfinished, lures that I could paint or have finished to my liking. The kind I am hoping to find are the lipless crank baits and rapala types.

So, my questions is; Where can I get blank lures? I will, no doubt be searching the Internet but if anyone can help me with a short cut to a lure blank manufacture, I'd appreciate it ... Thanks,

I know this one. I've bought a lot of lure making parts from Jann's Netcraft. The website is www.jannsnetcraft.com. I know there are others on the web, too, but this one's been in business forever and they're a good, reputable business. Good luck! [Wink] Oh, and they'll send you a catalog if you request it.

Hey, Coot. I don't know if you have tried Barlow Tackle in Richardson Texas, but I have been buying a lot of stuff from them for a lot of years. Their main address is barlowstackle.com, but here is a link to their online catalog page with a variety of hardbaits...lipless and regular crankbaits, minnow shapes, poppers, etc.

http://www.barlowstackle.com/acb2/Category.cfm?&DID=9&CATID=60

You can get them prefinished or unpainted and add your own hooks. They are good quality and a lot better prices than those in the bubble packs at your favorite tackletorium.

This is a good place to get bulk plastics too. They have a wide variety of shad bodies and tubes that are tough to find elsewhere. And their jig hooks and other things are more reasonable than Jann's or Bass Pro.

If you need any specific input or assistance, you know how to reach me.

Sorry, guys. I just tried the link I provided and it apparently needs to go through the home page first. http://www.barlowstackle.com/

When you bring up the home page, click on ONLINE FISHING TACKLE STORE. Then scroll down until you see 'Hard Plastic Lure Bodies". Click on that and there will be several choices for you to click...to bring up color pictures of your options.

Another thing, on the home page there are buttons to click for help in making lures and a lot of other good fishing info.

Check them out. I think you will find a home there.

You know coot, you dont have to have the blank lures to re paint them. You can just get an airbrush, or whatever your idea is and go over the top of the original finish. I say this because I dont know if you will be able to find the ever so famous producer without a finish already on it. Besides, all you want to do is write your name on the lure so if you loose it someone knows who it belongs too right? Ha Ha.

Both of your ideas were great. Especially the latter. Yea, I lost so many lures this year that Mrs. Coot said it would be cheaper to set up manufacturing rather than keep buying and replacing them. I know, everyone would just cherish snagging a personally autographed OC lure.

TD and MC, thanks for pointing me to those sites. They look promising.

Dan, I'm going to try to get a copy of that catalog too.
