LAHONTAN: Anglers are catching spawning walleye around Beach 4. Walleye are near the shore. Anglers also reporting many wipers and white bass. Most anglers using minnows. Many catfish are also coming in including an 11.5-pounder recently. For cats, try chicken liver, Powerbait or nightcrawlers. Burke’s Market, 577-2750.

DAVIS LAKE: The lake has approximately 50 percent open water. The north and south ends of the lake remain covered with ice with the center open. The east side road is open down to Lightning Tree campground. Foot travel is required from the road to lake side. Numerous rainbows have been brought in, with many in weighing 41/2 pounds or more. Mallard Cove has been productive for bait fishing. Use nightcrawlers and or Powerbait. Use short casts as the fish are close to shore. The boat ramp is scheduled to be plowed in two to three weeks. TRUCKEE RIVER: The water has come way up over the last week. Warm weather and rain and snow in the mountains continues to play a part. With even warmer weather approaching, the river should keep going up over the next few weeks. Heavy nymphs and streamers are the ticket right now. Be careful wading as it is hard to see the bottom because of the murky water. Reno Fly Shop, 825-3474. www.renoflyshop.com.

PYRAMID LAKE: Fishing was decent for the most part over the last week. The beginning of the week was really good with reports of 20 fish days all over the lake. As the weekend approached, more out-of-towners were fishing the lake and thus the Nets area was very crowded. The fishing at the Nets area was very slow on Thursday through Saturday. However, there were reports of lots of fish being caught south of Sutcliff. The key now during pre-spawn is to move around and find the fish. Do not get caught up fishing the Nets all day like most. Black beetles were the hot fly last week and should remain a good bet over the next couple of weeks. Reno Fly Shop, 825-3474. www.renoflyshop.com.
