Troutman

Can you tell us any more about it e..g. size weight or where you heard about it? If it's for Calico Bass them I am assuming it must have some weight to it as well. Which US state are you fishing for them in?

Might be worth posting this note on the California Regional Board as well.

Yellowfin Thor might also have a lead on this for us too. If not, I will consult the human Oricle of Calico Bass Fisher's and see what he has to say about them.

let me know about the above Q's first.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve - The MJB
BFT Lures/Baits
http://www.demonjigs.com

Hi MJB,

I see you on the Allcoast Boards also. I am fishing Southern California, Catalina and Anacapa Islands. My friend said this:

"Blam jigs are supposedly the hot tix for calico fishing. Green top with white bottom silver flake and also red, blue and
silver flake clear body. All fished with a yellow lead head with red eyes. Don't know if it's the different profile (fished shape with curly tail) that is triggering the bite but guys are swearing that this combo out fishes fish trap 2,3,5 to 1. This is a report from someone who fished the Island Tak (CISCO's) a couple of weeks ago and actually experienced and witnessed these
results. Even the crew is telling people to fish it."

So, of course, I'm interested.

Thanks! Jeff

--
troutman = half trout / half man

No worries Jeff

I can see why your interested!

I have to wonder if it is not the actual jig head colour more than the soft body (colour). Tail action of the soft bait will definately get them going for sure. Depth of water any idea?

Do you know if they are the only two soft bait colours that are working well or have other been working as well too?

Is the soft bait a shad tail or worm tail?

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve - The MJB
BFT Lures/Baits
http://www.demonjigs.com

Unfortunately, I only know what he said in his email. I will be seeing him in a few days and fishing with him in a few weeks. Maybe I can find out more from him, plus I'll search around and ask some others. I'll let you know if I come across anything. Thanks!

--
troutman = half trout / half man

No worries TM

Sounds to me like the jig head colour may be the major key in this. Look forward to an update when available. Until then,

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve - The MJB
BFT Lures/Baits
http://www.demonjigs.com

No worries TT

I also saw the comments regarding the green/white Blams as well. If the X-treme soft tails already have eyes in them then one option would be to use something like a tube skirt jig where you can slide the soft bait up onto the thin profile head. Max weight could only be around 1/2 to 5/8 oz though otherwise the diameter would get too large and probably split the bait.

As for the blams, sounds like they need to be on 1 or 1.5 oz heads and yellow as discussed before. If you have trouble getting yellow heads for those baits then let me know. We have just the right shade here.

I suspect the C-Bass may be seeing these as small baby squid.

Would be interesting to use white jigs heads and compare the difference in hit and hook up rate. I suspect the white would not do so well.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve - The MJB
BFT Lures/Baits
http://www.demonjigs.com

G'day Anon and thanks for the comments.

Yep, great I idea and agree. While they may not look pretty, using a lead head in front of soft bait is the way to go if tube jig heads cannot be found.

Interesting to hear your comments about the red heads as well. It seems that a few different head colours are the go, including the yellow ones mentioned above by Troutman ™.

What head weights are you using and do you think it is the jig head colour really making the difference or the soft tail colour, or both?

Your also on the money about the name change from Wham to Blam. Info on other boards suggest exactly that and TM has the "heads up" on that I think and if interested.

What fish have you been catching on them? Sounds like the tail colours may be working best on different species.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve - The MJB
BFT Lures/Baits
http://www.demonjigs.com

TT

Just thought I would drop in and see if we can get an update on these soft plastics.

Did you get any and give them a go? If so, what's the personal opinion on them in terms of colours, swimming action etc?

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Moderator Lures/Baits Forum
http://www.demonjigs.com

Hara

When you say they don't hold up, is that the number of hits before they are no good, they tear easy, won't stay on the jig head?

Not sure what you mean so expanding the picture would be good.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Moderator Lures/Baits Forum
http://www.demonjigs.com

Thanks for that feedback Anon.

How did you find the tearing factor?

Opinions seem to vary on this, although most soft pastics don't last too long anyway. Favourite colours?

P.S.
