Spinning reel on a FLY rod???

I fish salt water around Tampa, FL, from banks and kayaks, and could use more distance casting without adding weight. Spinning rods over 7' are too big and heavy - I can't find one the diameter of a 7 footer that's up to 9' long.

Has anyone rigged a fly rod with a spinning reel? Is there anyone who sells a 9' version of a 7' medium action rod?
