Be Vigilant Regarding Fish Kills
#1
JEFFERSON CITY, MO—A rash of crappie die-offs on north-central Missouri’s Long Branch Lake seems to be ending, but officials with the Missouri Department of Conservation (DOC) say anglers should continue to keep an eye on local lakes.

The die-off first appeared in mid-June, when anglers reported dead crappies to DOC conservation agents and fisheries biologists. It peaked around June 18, and laboratory analysis of the dead fish pointed to overpopulation as the cause, rather than disease or parasites.
