New York Offers Free Youth Fishing Clinics
#1
QUEENS, NY—The New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will soon hold three free family fishing clinics in Queens, Staten Island and Manhattan. Each clinic will consist of four 10-minute educational sessions followed by fishing. Rods, bait and instruction will be provided by the DEC. The clinics are being offered as part of DEC's "I Fish NY" program. Using funds from the Federal Wildlife and Conservation Restoration Program, "I Fish NY" teaches urban youngsters how to fish, and provides instruction on fish biology, management, regulations and information about local fish consumption advisories and environmental issues. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Fishing gear will be provided but participants can bring their own. Because of limited pier space, pre-registration is required. Call Melissa Cohen, (718) 482-4022; or Katie Sheehan, (718) 482-1460.
