Rock Collecting 1-7
#1
It was one of those good news/bad news days. Kastmaster and I went to Rockport and started fishing around 8 AM, and shortly afterward began to ring up some nice perch. They were preferring perch meat this AM. The bad news was the perch bite stopped about 10:00 and we weren't able to really find them again afterwards, although we did get a couple more here and there. More good news was that we were getting several very nice rainbows at the same time and afterwards, 15-17 inches and very fat. That stopped too and we left in the early afternoon. We went to Rock Cliffs. More good news, there is MORE ice there than Tuesday. We went out. The older ice was 10-12 inches thick and solid and there was now cap clear out to the wakeless bouys, very nice. Now the bad news, no perch. The safe ice was only over water 10-12 ft. deep and we found no perchies. Now, good news, there was a good trout bite. We caught a few in an hour and another group out there had done very well for them. (so at least there is another ice trout option.) Give it a couple weeks, weather permitting, and the deeper water will be accessible.

Conditions were fine at Rockport; 6 inches of ice, slightly slushy edges when we left, and the hole in the middle is smaller. Some other groups had a few perch, no one with a lot, and a couple guys had a trout or two also. Many guys were skunked or nearly so. Rock Cliffs is the Provo River inlet to Jordanelle.
