Wiper Trolling Lures
#1
[cool][#0000ff]Since I am now a boater, and plan to drag some lures for wipers and wallies (maybe troutskis too), I have been adding to my arsenal of trolling lures. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Since most fish respond best to contrasting colors, and are especially fond of whites, with red, blue or black backs, those are the colors I have used most. I also use a lot of glitters and some prism tape. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The three attached pics show the three basic types of lures I have made...spoons, lipless crankbaits and blade lures. All of these perform well when trolled (or retrieved) at the higher speeds usually favored by wipers.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have not added hooks for the pics, but I use mostly Eagle Claw 575 2X strong nickle treble hooks. I also rig some with large single hooks...usually spinner bait hooks. I leave some plain and "decorate" others with feathers, hair and/or synthetics...like flashabou or Krystal Flash.[/#0000ff]

[cool][#0000ff]I buy the "trap" unpainted blanks from Barlows, but I have also repainted a lot of the factory jobs over the years. Some of their "plain vanilla" paint jobs are not quite as flashy as I like...or the fish like. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I use a lot of different patterns of prism tape on the plain silver sides. I also do some glitter (surprise) and even add "hot dots" with spots of bright red or chartreuse. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]If you like frog finish flatfish, you should try to do a frog finish Trap. I use a metallic green background, a chartreuse yellow spot and then black for the center of the yellow.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Yeah, once us lure-makin' boys gets a good supply of paint, glitter and prism tape you gotta just stand back and let us alone. Gettin' too close can result in radiation exposure.[/#0000ff]
