Pick 8 flies for beginners to tie!
#1
I will be starting my beginning fly tying classes again, in a few weeks.
My question to everyone is this.
What 8 flies do you suggest that I start the classes on.
These flies will be for trout, wet and dry.
I will let you know what I have used in the past after your responses.

go with these three

wooly bugger
cadis
streamer (simple)

it has been my experience that...
kids seem to love the wooly bugger over the rest. maybe it is because kids are still fasinated by wooly bugs and fuzzy pillers.

Flygodded, my list is very close to your suggestion list.
Less #4 and #5. Instead of those 2 flies,I have used a Caddis and a Renegade or Double Renegade.
As you all know the smaller flies like a Griffith's Gnat is the hardest one for beginners. I start them on a size 16 hook at first.
Dubbing seems to be the next hardest thing for them to learn.
It has been very rewarding to have students come to me after they have had the classes and express their joy in catching fish on flies that I helped them learn to tie.

I've only been fly fishing for a couple of months, so I'm no expert but I would add a brassie and a sowbug to the list. They are easy to tie and produce fish.
