I could not agree Filigree (Oxford dictionary meaning? fragile or delicate) and thanks for your comments.

While their may not be a primer (which would be about 10 ft high by 6 ft thick by the way), I know a lot of angling clubs that actively encourage all young anglers to take part, both male and female.. You may have also seen "take a kid fishing day" and many other activities that are about getting them all involved, including both young and older women. This also includes on fly by the way.

I would encourage those three you female anglers (and all their friends) to show up here, register a user name each, join in the chat, ask questions and more.

I would also like to hear what they learnt from the anglers they interviewed, and then the fish they caught and how, where and what.

So let them know they are welcome here!

I would also like to see other female anglers post here along side of the blokes. I think that would be great and have also said so in the post from me here called "read first".

So don't shy, regardless of wether you a male of female angler. Why? because shyness won't get you onto the fish and it won't get you a burnin thumb either!

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve - The MJB
BFT Lures/Baits
http://www.demonjigs.com

All it takes is to get them intrested, and you'll have plent of girls/women fishing. I know, I took my girlfriends 10 year old neice out and she loved it so much that I was taking half her class out before spring was here! My 6yo neice comes from buffalo once a year to see her grand parents and me, the first thing she wants to do is see the boat!!!!! If everybody would take just one kid out or SEND A KID fishing our hobby would be strong for many many years! TIGHT LINES,TIM

Mick

Great story and yep, those teeth are a thing to remember. Did you get over your seasickness?

That has been a major point of discussion here on one of the threads below. If you have suggestions on how you managed the human chum line effect then drop a note in their as well.

It's major problem for many people.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve - The MJB
BFT Lures/Baits
http://www.demonjigs.com

Well isn't it amazing who turns up at these sites.
My girlfriend got the fishing bug after she caught her first barramundi (lates calcarifer), a much sought after fish in the northern parts of Australia. Since then she only asks for fishing gear for her birthday and xmas. She even picked out my latest boat, what else could I do but buy it! Beauty of it all is she lets me use her gear (which is much more expensive than mine) when she decides it's either too hot or she's had too many JD's the night before. Best of both worlds really. It is starting to become a little depressing though as my ego continues to suffer. Problem is, she has become quite an accomplished angler and now regularly catches more fish and often varieties I'm yet to land. Now instead of buying her fishing gear, I'm buying her bottles of JD.
Haveagoodone
Steve Carrigg
Broome, West Oz

While fishing on a drift boat here in Florida. I was able to land a black fin tuna which the captain of this vessel was supprised to see a fish like this cought off of the coast here. I caught this fish on a balewhu with the regular hook arangement they give you on this type of boat.

Yep Steve your right.

It is amazing who turns up when you least expect it. Good to see you hear and dropping in a few comments. Also glad to hear that you and GF are doing some great fishing up their.

For those non - Aussie anglers who are reading this post, Steve lives in a small pearling town in the far north west of Australia. Also one of the world's hottest sailfish locations and home to the much reverred Barramundi which I know many global anglers have heard about.

I have a also spent a lot of time in this part of Australia and once if grabs you it never let's go, that's for sure.

Steve also does some column writing for the local newspaper, although it sounds like he might need to spend more time out on the water keeping his skills sharpened as the GF sounds ready she is ready to match him fish for fish.

If your interested, and have the time, an occassional fish report on the Australia board would me most welcome.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Moderator - Lures/Baits
http://www.demonjigs.com

Chump thanks for your note.

Well, here is how you can get in the "serious running" for these prizes. Start off letting us know where you fish, how, what species, tackle used and so on. Ask questions, help out others out where possible and so on.

If you have some fishing buddies, invite them into the board, ask them to register a username first, and then talk up "a fishing storm".

That will get you in the "serious" running and all the best at the end of July.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Master Jig Builder
Moderator - Lures/Baits
http://www.demonjigs.com

Great catch Lilart!

Black Tuna hey. I have heard there are some around and Big Kuhuna and his buddies have been on to some recently as well down FL way, so your not alone.

Just have to be in the right place at the right time.

Tell us some more about your catch, lures, fish weight, fight, how long it took to land and so on. Any pics?

Love to see one and I am sure others would too.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Moderator - Lures/Baits
http://www.demonjigs.com

Dale

WAY TOOOOO GO on that big muskie!

Sounds like "Big Jim" has got you sussed out though cos he knows just what to do. Well, as you may recall, I mentioned you have to fish him like he is the last fish your even going to catch.

What does that mean? More attitude that's what. You have to become a lean, mean, fish fightin machine otherwise Big Jim is going to pull this stunt on you every time.

Hook him up and take no prisoners. Work out your drag pressure in advance and then once he is on, just take him on and don't touch your drag. Let Big Jim know you mean serious business ok.

Keep us posted Dale cos I am looking forward to the next round of the "Big Jim' Story.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Moderator - Lures/Baits
http://www.demonjigs.com

Welcome Kimberly and it's great to hear that your a bass angler.

Motor Oil baits hey! Assume that means they are the colour of motor oil and imagine your using these on a lead head jig.

Tell us a bit more ok like, what jig head weights you use, favourite hook type, who you go fishing with, how often and so on. Are these large and/or smallmouth bass that you chase?

By the way, have you ever heard of Cajun Critter's? Twin tail grub that BassPro used to stock. Have an 80 year olf man who can't find them anymore!

You might have noticed the other post on them.

Looking forward to more news ok on your fishing ok.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Moderator - Lures/Baits
http://www.demonjigs.com

Wayne

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it.

Also glad you dropped in and agree with you. There is a lot to learn in the world of fishing, regardless of where anglers live, and for me that's every day of the week. Also one of the reasons I like moderating this Board.

Always something new to be learnt and keeps me humble let me tell ya!

Sounds like you did a great job of that SB by the way. Well done to both you and the deckie!... I also agree with you about keeping things (and talk) simple. Why? because in the main, fishing should be a simple thing. Sure, there are lots of reel numbers, hook numbers, rod models, terms and so on.

Many need them too because the market place is full of competition. At the same time, I am a big fan of the KISS principle (Keep is Simple Steve) and for most types of fishing that's what myself, and I am sure may others, like to do. Keep it simple.

So let us know more about the Bass trip, the rod and reel you were using, tackle, and how long you were out for ok.. I am also glad you stepped on up to let your voice be heard. "On ya", as we say down here...

Look forward to hearing it some more soon. We might even hear from a few of those Nebraska anglers and some of those BIG BASS stories. Hey I would like that!

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Moderator - Lures/Baits
http://www.demonjigs.com

No worries Dale

Try a small piece of red meat or mince meat. Garfish tend to like the colour and smell, although once it looses it's colour they tend to steer away from it.

Let us know how you get on.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Moderator - Lures/Baits
http://www.demonjigs.com

Steve,

I just returned from a great trip to Destin,FL with the family. I thought I would share a story and ask a question.

I spent the week fishing the surf, the jetties, the Okaloosa Pier , and took one trip out on a sport boat for Kingfish. My four-year old daughter really loves to fish and she had a great time catching bait for me. I helped with a spinning rod rigged up with a Sabiki rig on the pier, what a blast.

At one point, a couple of big tarpon came cruising thru the area and I bet they thought that it was raining lures from all of the hardware being thrown at them from the guys on the pier.

Anyway, we had a good day/week catching ladyfish, blue runners, and jacks on small jigs and spoons.

On the offshore trip, we caught 1 dolphin, 1 cobia, 1 bonito, and 8 mackerel. We had one lady on the boat, her first trip, and of course she landed the biggest King of the day. It was a 21 lb beauty.

My question is this. What area of the gulf coast allows closest access to deep water and species like tuna, wahoo, marlin, and sailfish. I seem to only be able to book trip that are overnight (expensive) for those species.

Thanks and great fishing.

Glad you dropped in Tex and welcome to the board.

Sounds like it was a great trip all round and Sabiki rigs are a great way to get young kids involved hey!

A real blast on light gear and to see their faces when then come up with three or four baitfish at once.. Precious in my view.

For them I reckon it's just like christmas and a great thing to have them experience. My daughters, who are a bit older, still jump about and get blown away by the fact that they have caught a fish.

Offshore it sounds like you picked up some nice pelagics as well. In terms of your Q, I do not have an answer to that. Even so, here are a couple of options.

Head up to Capt Dan's saltwater board and post the Q there. Then head down to the FL regional board and do the same so that local anglers their can help you out. .

Someone will come up with the answer for sure.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Moderator Lures/Baits Forum
http://www.demonjigs.com
