The males seems to be working shallow, especially very late or very early in the day in preparation for the spawn. Big females are being caught in deeper water. Look for schooling baitfish and throw topwater or shallow running crankbaits. During the midday, if you don’t see bait or fish surfacing, try jerkbaits or Rat-L-Traps or similar baits. The bite is very good.

Crappie: The bite is reaching its best. Get out now if you want to catch Percy Priest crappie as they move shallow. Limits are now being taken from water 3 feet and shallower on minnows and jigs. Fish are also being caught deeper, but bank anglers should have as good a shot right now as boat anglers as the fish move close in to spawn.

Hybrids, White Bass: Both fish are biting well. Hybrids are feeding heavily on bait and busting the suface throughout the day. Live bait can catch deeper fish, but crankbaits, flukes, and topwater baits are effective baits for fish that are surfacing and feeding. [#0b1e79]Old Hickory [/#0b1e79] (water temp high 50s to low 60s) Largemouth: Largemouth are biting. Crankbaits are working well in the back of creeks or near the Gallatin Steam Plant.

White Bass: Anglers are catching lots of white bass right now. Fish near schooling shad and throw jigs, small spinners, or shad-style crankbaits. If you get in to a concentration of white bass, you can catch dozens of fish quickly.
