fishing report from j.t.
#1
i,m posting this for a guest :jan t. Hi: Fishing on Roy Lake last weekend produced some limits of 15"to 22" walleyes. Some caught in 6' of water but a lot of people catching them deeper. On another lake 5 minutes from here limits of walleyes were caught within the hour and people could go home, have fish for breakfast and make church. This week we have had extremely cold temps. and not many people fishing. Sunup and sundown is definitely the best fishing as most of the lakes are gin clear water. Cattail, 15 minutes from here 4-8 lb. northerns are being caught and some as big as 16 on Roy. Roy has even larger northerns but most people lose them because they don't have the finesse to keep them on their line or their lines are too light. Ice on Roy Lake is 28" and most lakes around here should be at least 2 feet. So. Buffallo has had northerns and walleye and crappie fishing and Red Iron some small perch. I well try to send pictures of the fishing on Roy this last Fall. You well be impressed. Roy is probably the premiere large mouth lake in the State of S.D. with 5-7# bass being caught and small mouth in the 3-5 lb. range with a six pounder caught last summer. Walleyes should be 15 to 20 " with 6 to 9 lb. walleyes being caught. Perch are making a major comeback after being fished out three years ago and this fall we should start to see real fat 10-12" perch. Crappies ran 1 1/2 to 2 lb. last summer and fall. Expect to see more of the same this next summer. Hope this gives you a little bit of an overview. Temperatures are rapidly rising today which should also mean good fishing. These lakes get very little fishing pressure. The people who know the lakes keep quiet and those who don't know them have to spend a little bit more time exploring. If you do that you well always come back. Well be talking to you next week. Thanks, Jan
