new fish finder and would like some suggestions
#1
So I finally bit the bullet and purchased a fish finder today and I would like some help on getting it rigged up for ice fishing. Mainly I would like to know how people have the transducer set up. The guy at Sportsmans gave me a good idea on how to set up the unit in an old tackle box which I think will work out great. Pictures would be appreciated if possible. Thanks.

In case you were wondering it is the Lowrance X86DS

You can find examples on here of how to rig your transducer on a piece of PVC; however, if you want to do it right, and if Lowrance makes one for your unit, pay the extra $50 bucks for an ice transducer (puck style) and add a Vexilar float ($3.50 if purchased at the same time as the transducer) and you won't regret it. Contact Reeds Sporting Goods http://www.reedssports.com and see what they have available. The Lowrance Ice Fishing Accessory Pack is probably not worth the money. Consider buying what you need separately.

A trick I've used many times. Drill a hole about i inch or 2 deep. fill it with water and something to keep it from freezing Place your transducer in the water and it will shoot through the ice. Just make sure when you are through wipe the transducer clean.
