Miami Sailfish and Swordfish Report
#1
Well its been a few weeks since my last report. Fishing has been a bit slow on the reef. On thursday I had the opportunity to fish with a couple of guys from Toronto. John, Mark and myself hit the water by 7am. We loaded up the boat with goggs, pilchards and herring. We ran out just north of Fowey and found dirty green water. I decided to make a decent run south to Pacific Light. We set up in 200ft of water and in no time we had action. We landed 1 sail and 4 kingfish on the first drift. We had great action all through out the day. We caught 7 sailfish, 9 kingfish up to 12lbs, and 1 dolphin around 17lbs. All in all it was a great day out on the water.

Friday I had a swordfish trip with 5 guys from Miami. Rich, Chad, Danny, Chico and myself hit the water at 4 and made the run out to the swordfish grounds. It was a bit bumpy on the way out with the SSE wind around 17kts for most of the day. We set up in 1900ft of water. After about an hour I check the baits and sent them back out. 20 minutes later we get a bite on the 200ft bait. Danny gets on the rod and has the fish to the boat in about 20 minutes, as i start to wire the fish i can feel she has some weight to her. I get to the main leader and she decides to go crazy at the boat slashing the water, hitting her bill against the boat and then making a 400ft run. Since we were going to release her anyways, Danny gave Chad the rod so he could fight her for a while. Chad does a great job fighting her for about 35 minutes and we give her a good clean release. The guys decided to call it an early night and we were back to the dock by 11. All in all it was a great night aside from the bumpy ride out.

This week I have quite a few reef trips, and two swordfish trips weather permitting. Tarpon fishing has also started picking up. I have recieved some really great reports the last few weeks. With a coldfront coming in this week the sailfishing should really pick-up!
