That's it Dan.

Your on fire now. The pathway to MOF is much more convoluted than from a regular website. Even so, it's a happening thing and that is a great Kingie!

FYI, and speaking of Kingies, there is an article coming out in a fishing magazine down here that is talking of (wait for it) regular 100 pounders being taken in NZ waters.

I struggle to get my head around a kingie of that weight. 5 times the size of this one in your pic Dan. Can you imagine the drag on your reel after one of those? Smokin, seized, and just about a throw away reel I reckon.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Moderator Lures/Baits Forum
http://www.demonjigs.com

I hear you about the clothing. Everyone else was in short sleves and shorts and he was still dressed as if it were 5am. By the way, notice how his sweatpants are falling off! [shocked] He had to keep pulling them up as he was fighting the fish. Too funny [laugh]

Fishing Academy --->http://www.fishingacademy.com

Steve,
I've caught a couple Yellowtail over 50# but never close to 100. I think the record for a California Yellowtail is around 78 pounds. You're right, a 100 # 'er would completely destroy a 4/0 or 6/0 reel.
Dan

Fishing Academy --->http://www.fishingacademy.com

Capt. Dan where are you getting your stash of faces from? They are getting funnier and bigger by the day!

Dan, even 50# is hard work. Sounds like a great catch because there is nothing sloppy about a 50# yellowtail in anyone's book that's for sure IMO.

That one in your pic is about the same size as this one on the page link below:

http://www.outdoorcart.com/demon/ridgebacksquid.htm

Here is a link to a mate of mine's website in NZ. This Captain knows kingies real well and he has some great pics of them their as well.

http://www.charterfishing.co.nz

If they publish some good pics in this article (which I have not seen yet) I will ask the editor for permission to post one here. Can't wait to seem em that's for sure.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Moderator Lures/Baits Forum
http://www.demonjigs.com

Not confusing to me, just making joke…

Yellowtail Jacks are not as tough as Amber Jacks from what I have heard, my friend, the commercial fisher, has no pix…
`bummer.
He got it on a hand line bottom fishing.

We get 100+ AJ’s here in Hawaii a few times a year.
Same with Ulua, a guy on Lanai got a 130 pound GT off a beach last month.

That’s the thing with Hawaii, maybe not so good on catch numbers in general but QUALITY sure is hard to beat on the species we get.
Another friend just got 10 bigger yellowfin Tuna night before last, from 135 to 220 lbs....`not bad for 2 guys on a 27 ft' boat in one night.
& I have charters all week so no can go nighttime...

[Wink]
