Trout Time: `Trout season' may still be 10 weeks away, but `stocking season' is here at year-round waters

FLORENCE - The adults around him were excited, but 2 1/2 -year-old Jacob McDaniel wasn't sure what to make of the 15-inch rainbow trout he had just reeled up to his feet on the shore of Cleawox Lake.
He was leery of even touching the still-squirming fish, much less holding it himself for a photo.
"This is the first time he's caught a fish," said the boy's uncle, Jason McDaniel, who cast the baited hook out for Jacob and let him reel it in himself.
The McDaniels are among the anglers taking advantage of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife's winter trout stocking program in waters that are open to fishing year-round.
