Mitchell Rods
#1
I have some older mitchell rods (3-5years old) and they broke right where they join together (they are two peice). The thing that happened is they pull apart slightly while fishing, then when a fish hits the lure and I set the hook, the rods bends and cracks the housing on the part of the rod that covers the smaller part of the rod. Is there anything out there that can fix this dilemma?

[#0000a0]Spider, this problem can be remedied a couple of different ways depending on how far up the crack goes. One way is to find another broken rod that has the slightly larger diameter as the one you are trying to fix. First remove the thread wraps from the broken end and piece from the donor rod that will fit snugly over the broken piece that is long enough to cover the break. Rough the surfaces and glue with two part epoxy After it dries wrap a layer or two of thread over the entire area blending the two parts together and then finishing with flex coat or similar finish. [#0000a0]Another way to fix it is to cut the thread off of the affected part and wrap the area with several layers of very tightly wrapped kevlar thread and then apply your rod finish over the thread. How far up the rod does the crack go? and is it going with the direction of the axis of the rod? [/#0000a0]
