Applying for an IGFA record is tricky business. You really have to have your ducks in a row. These are some things you need to do before you attempt it:

1. Find a tackle store with an IGFA certified scale
2. Pre determine the location and contact info of a willing Marine Biologist to examine the fish.
3. Pre determine the location of a notary
4. Have the IGFA send you rule packet along with an entry form

You may find that a local marina has already been through this before and has all those tools at thier desposal. But know that the IGFA is very detailed and you really need to make sure it's right. This is the web address for the IGFA. You can get some info there and also order an info packet VIA email:

LOL, gotcha [Wink] Believe it or not, they're not going to weigh the fish for you. [Tongue] But, if you're that close to the IGFA, i'd head in there and hear it from the horses mouth. They can tell you where all the official weigh stations are, what you need, and you can pick up apps while you're there. [cool]

Hey, take us some pic's of the museum, I hear it's pretty cool. If you can do that, i'll send you a BFT shirt and some stickers in the mail. [Smile]

Here is a page from the Florida FWC on reporting a state record.
I hope this helps you.[cool]

If you have caught a potential state record freshwater fish, you should follow the following steps:
1. Angler must have a valid Florida fishing license or be exempt under provisions addressed in Florida
Freshwater Sport Fishing Regulations.
2. The fish must have been caught legally using an active hook-and-line method (bush hooks, snatch hooks,
set lines, trotlines, etc. are excluded) in fresh waters of Florida.
3. If possible, keep the fish alive. If it is not possible to keep the fish alive, place it in ice water. Avoid
freezing the fish, because it will dehydrate causing it to lose weight.
4. Before contacting the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), weigh the fish to
determine if a possible state record exists.
5. Make arrangements with the local FWC office http://myfwc.com/aboutus/regnoffc.html during business hours to have the fish species certified by a biologist, and to have a FWC employee witness the official weighing, on a certified scale, and take measurements.
6. Fill out a State Record Fish application and have the application signed by the biologist and notarized.
Applications can be obtained from local offices of the FWC or on the Internet at http://floridafisheries.com/pdf/record-applicationPRINT.pdf
7. Mail the completed application to: Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Record Fish Program, 620 South Meridian Street, Tallahassee, FL, 32399-1600

If you've caught a potential state record saltwater fish you should complete the Florida State Saltwater Record Application which can be found on line at http://myfwc.com/marine/fishrecords/florida1.pdf. In order to be considered for a record you may need to have your fish weighed on IGFA certified scales. The completed application should be returned to the International Game Fish Association; Fishing Hall of Fame and Museum; 300 Gulf Stream Way; Dania Beach, FL 33004 - Telephone (954)927-2628 Fax (954)924-4299.

Try your best to keep it alive. Once it is dead, it starts to dry out and weigh much less. Also by keeping it alive, you may be able to return it to the water so that you can catch it another day.[cool]
