Fishing on the Caribbean
#1
I wanted to know if anyone has gone fishing on the Atlantic Coast of Costa Rica/ Central America... I am looking to buy a property in Costa Rica, IslaMoin , which is the only place where I have found that has a great sized Marina and is safe from Hurricanes/storms. I would like to hear from someone to know what they are catching over there and hows the general fishing. I always go to the Pacific, but its overly crowded now and the Marinas are such as hassle to get to (from Miami).
So let me know please!

Welcome to the bigfishtackle.com message boards Henry! I'm sure you'll get a speedy response from some of our skippers in that local or close by area. I know we've got ALOT of Florida based anglers specifically. As far as Costa Rica, we'll all find out together. [Tongue]

What kind of fish do you primarily target?

Thanks for the welcome!
I have always really focused on Deep Sea Fishing... Marlin, sail, dolphin, tuna ect...

A big marlin has always been my "unicorn." However, i've landed plenty of the other species mentioned. I fish mostly offshore, but find myself stuck in the creek from time to time depending on the weather. Limited funds means limited boat footage. [Wink]

But, I get out quite often. I target alot of reef species like King and spanish mackerel, AJ's, shark, sheephead, spadefish, and what ever else is with in reach.

I lived on Guam for a couple years, and I mostly targeted Wahoo, Mahi, and sailfish; and still do when the opportunity arrises. I consider Wahoo as my specialty, atleast back then. LOL, I rarely get the chance to target them anymore now that I live back in SC. [Sad] I figure it's my time to win the lottery this year and i'll be able to buy a boat big enough to reach the gulfstream. LOL, we'll see what happens. [Tongue]

Welcome aboard henryfischer. Thanks for registering and thanks for the question.

While the east coast of Costa Rica doesn't get much as far Hurricanes go, they do get thier share of rain.

Puerto Limon is about the only main Port left out there because of the major decline in business for the fishing industry on the East coast.

More of the business is still on the West coast due to the more favorable weather patterns and of course excellent fishing.

Hey, what do you think of this Marina which is right by Puerto Limon [url "http://www.islamoin.com"]www.islamoin.com[/url] .. Its the property I am looking into, from what I hear they are trying to fix up the port and start doing more business from there, I am thinking that from an investor's point of view it might be good to get in there first before the area blows up...

It usually rains about 300 days out of the year down there. I would seriously think about it first.

Only in Limon and Portland Oregon can you count the sunny days of the year on 1 hand.

I don't mean to dampen your spirits. You can still fish in the rain. that is one of the good things.

Just saw a show last night about fishing the atlantic coast of Costa Rica. Lots and lots of tarpon, sailfish, and reef fish. I'm not an expert on property, but they seems to be a ton of fish. I would be happy to come stay at your place! Smile
