Fishing Report March 8, 2003
The lake level is 354.1 (muddy) and water temperatures between 43 to 44 degrees, Crappie fishing was relatively slow for us Saturday during a guide trip with Danny Alford of Clarksville after the southeast winds started blowing to 20 mph. We did manage to scrape up 19 and all of them with the exception of one was males. Several warm days this past week warmed the water temperatures up so the crappie are starting their movement to shallower water. The crappie we did catch was taken over manmade stake beds and brush piles in 14 to 17 foot zones in the Big Sandy areas around Mansard Island. Down near the mouth of Big Sandy on main lake ledge we caught a few till the winds started blowing leaving us no choice but to move. The deep sides of the ledge where structure was producing fish in a typical winter pattern. In the next few weeks you will see fish move into large bays or flats in shallow areas getting ready to spawn, Watch for water temperatures to reach 60 – 65 degrees by April for ideal spawning temps. Best baits for Saturday was the TeeZur Hot Head Green Monster tipped with a Berkley crappie nibble also a TeeZur Hot Head 3/32 Candy blue with a Black blue skirt tipped with Berkley Crappie Nibble. For more info on TeeZur jigs, or crappie nibbles, send me an email. Or call TeeZur at 731.692.3908 Remember your life Jackets and don’t forget the Kids they also want to enjoy the same action as you!
God bless and good fishing to you all.
