The 2007 trout and general freshwater fishing season will begin at 6:00 AM Saturday, April 14, 2007.
Approximately, 70,000 two-year old brook, brown, and rainbow trout with an average weight of one pound will be stocked in more than 80 ponds and streams for opening day.
A 2007-08 fishing license is required for any person 15 years of age or older wishing to catch fish, and in addition, a Trout Conservation Stamp is required of any person wishing to keep or possess a trout or to fish in a catch-and-release or fly-fishing only area.
In addition to the regular ponds that are restricted to children 14 years of age and younger, Cass Pond in Woonsocket and Slater Park Pond in Pawtucket will be FOR KIDS ONLY for the first two days of the season.
Biscuit City Pond in Kingston will remain off the stocking program at the request of the Biscuit City Neighborhood Association, the owners of this area.
There are no increases in the license fees nor the trout stamp.[#400080]"The 2007 trout-fishing season promises to be an exceptionally good year. The quality and size of the trout that will be stocked this year is excellent. This is the result of an upgrade of hatchery facilities made possible as a result of the Trout Conservation Stamp program and Rhode Island's Federal Aid in Sportfish Restoration Program." Michael L. Lapisky, Acting Chief[/#400080]
