Bridges named Southern States Boating Law Enforcement Officer of the Year
#1
LITTLE ROCK - The Southern States Boating Law Administrators Association has selected Corporal Bill G. Bridges of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission as their 2007 Boating Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.

Cpl. Bridges has been an AGFC wildlife officer for 35 years. He has worked in Garland County, one of the state's top boating destinations for 34 of those years. Garland County is home to Lake Ouachita, Lake Hamilton and Lake Catherine as well as the Ouachita and Saline rivers.

In addition to his duties enforcing hunting and fishing regulations, Bridges devotes hundreds of hours every year towards enforcing boating laws and promoting safer use of Arkansas's lakes and flowing waters.

Bridges also is extremely active in the "Keep our Kids Safe" program, which rewards children wearing properly fitted life jackets with coupons for free ice cream and soft drinks from local vendors. The program not only promotes the proper use of life jackets, but also fosters a positive image of wildlife officers and the AGFC on the water.

He is a strong advocate for outdoors safety programs in schools, teaching the Boater Education program and general life jacket safety classes to students at his local elementary school.

Cpl. Bridges will represent the southern region of the United States at the National Association of Boating Law Administrators conference held in September in Burlington, VT.
