Don't think there's one down that far except the landowner tags and cwmu's.

Where he wants to hunt is a huge chunk of private land owned by some family friends. When does a landowner have to apply for tags? And since were on the subject, CWMU land, I know what it stands for but how exactly did that come about? Is it private land within a public boundary?

The dwr allots a certain amount of tags for the landowner to do as he pleases in return for them allowing the general public to access the private land either by a drawing or buying a tag outright. I think ther concept is a good idea but i think the landowners are getting away with murder. Deseret charges $15'000 for a trophy bull tag where as you can draw one for $280 for public land and the cwmu's sell out years in advance. From what i have seen and been told the cwmu's are catering to the people that pay for the tags instead of the public who the system was put in to place to help. As far as i am concerned i will not give my money to a cwmu operator. I will wait my whole life to draw a tag on a public area where the only ones benefiting are the f&g and myself. my .2[Sad] I hope you find some tags and fill the freezer. Good luck.

You are right Lunkerhunter but some of the CWMU's can be good areas to draw if the land owners are cool. For example, if you draw a Deseret bull elk tag then you will have to be escorted by a guide and he will pretty much detemine what you kill. If you draw a Hell canyon or Guildersleeve CWMU tag than any bull elk you can find is fair to take, and you get to hunt on your own. The down side is they only give you a few days so unless you know the area very well, you might not find a trophy.

I know there are some good ones out there but you have to talk to someone that has hunted it to see if it is a good tag and a respectable landowner. They sure as hell won't let you scout it before you put in for a tag.[cool]
