Fisherman's wife needs help please
#1
Hi All
I am after a bit of advice , if anyone can help PLEASE!!!!?????
I have just bought my husband a Penn Int 70 VS reel and would like to buy some line to go with it. I dont want to ask him as it is a surprise for his Bday I know that the blurb in the reel info says 1000m of 24 kg line I am in Australia !!! hence the metric !!!
But what I would like to know is what sort , mono, braid,??? brands???
Can anyone help out there who has had success using a certain brand etc??? Colour?? type???
He is fishing mainly for small sailfish, tuna, mackeral, maui maui
Thanking you in anticipation

Gday and thanks for registering.

Although the reel will hold 1000m of line, it is usually recommended to put a few hundred meters of backing first. It is alright to use backing of equal or slightly higher size than the line.

From there, I'm sure your husband would like the braided line over mono. I would recommend the Power Pro brand if they have it over there. White color will work and they may have it in lbs or Kgs.

If they have it in Lbs then the 50 should be fine for all the fishing that you described. If it is in KGs then the 22 or 24kg would be quite alright.

Be sure to put at least 500 or 600m of quality backing. Your local tackle store should have a selection for you to choose from.

Good luck and Gday.

Please come back to let us know how he likes it and perhaps a fishing report or 2.[Wink]

awesome!.. Welcome to BFT, Aquachat!

Could I be a thorn and ask you to resize the pictures down to about 400 pixels for the board to get back into shape, please?

If you need a hand I can do it for ya in .. would only take a second on my end.

Your husband is a lucky guy! A nice boat and some nice fish.. not to mention a generous wife that buys him nice equipment to boot!!

yep pretty lucky fellow!! [Wink]
