Little/Big Cottonwood Canyons
#1
Does anyone know if the DWR has completely stopped planting the Cottonwood Canyon streams and turned them over to natural reproduction? If so, why? And if so, do people think these streams should be catch and release only? Or, if you put that tag on a stream, does that become a magnet for fly fishers

I dont know about big little cottonwood specifically but they have cut back on planting of streams. I got this info from the DWR officer at the Kamas hatchery. Not because they want to but because whirling disease in the hatcheries. Less fish to go around. They are working on getting well water that will not have spores in it and to rebuild the hatcheries but it will take awhile. The river I was asking about when told this info was the upper provo up Mirror Lake Highway. Great place to take the kids to teach them to stream fish. This water used to get planted once a week but he told only a couple a times a summer now.
