Dove hunt
#1
Went out dove hunting. I hate when holiday weekends fall on hunting openers, everyone hits the field. It was hard pressed this year with all of the heat and no real snap to get the birds moving; we had to work for them. Between 10 hunters the first morning we took down 75 and cleaned up the limits in the afternoon.
The second day was much more difficult, all the local birds had been hunted hard. That was a recipie for low limits till we decided to start banging on olive trees on the edge of fields, talk about fun shooting. Only ended up with about 60 the second day.
Ate all those little bugger that night, boy were they delicious!! Butter, fresh garlic and bacon chunks mmmmm mmmmm mmmmm.
Also this year we ran into so many problems gaining access to private protperty, one in ten would grant us access. Luckily we have a field that we have rights on until it is sold.

We also found fewer birds than in previous years. We also found a change in flight/feeding patterns. The birds were in the sunflowers in the mornings ( not quite as many as other years but some, anyway) but they just did not seem to want to feed in the afternoon/ evening. This was very much different than other years in the same area. Anyone else find the same thing or have an explanation why?
