ODFW invites families for a day of fun at the West Salish Pond youth angling event
#1
Fairview, Ore. - The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is hosting a youth angling event Saturday, September 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at West Salish Pond in Fairview, Oregon.

"No activity bonds a family together quite like fishing!" says Jeff Fulop, STEP Biologist for the North Willamette Watershed. "What's great about these events is that kids with a lot of experience or no experience can come have a great time."

The department will stock approx 3,000 trophy-sized rainbow trout and 150 four-pound rainbow trout the morning of the event. The department is also supplying rods and reels for the day in addition to bait, tackle and fish bags for use by young anglers without fishing equipment. ODFW staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and offer assistance to less experienced youth anglers. Packets of information including ODFW's Easy Angling booklets will be available to participants.

This program was made possible through a $50,000 appropriation from the Oregon Legislature and a partnership with the Oregon Wildlife Heritage Foundation, which has pledged an additional $50,000 and is working with ODFW to develop and promote youth fishing opportunities throughout the state.

Under Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations, anglers aged 13 and under do not require a license, while those 14-17 require a juvenile license. All fishing regulations continue to apply for this event.

West Salish Pond is located in the Salish Ponds Wetlands Park on the north side of NE Glisan Street just west of NE 207th in Fairview.
