In Hawaii, we often get Mahi with the Blue / Silver coloring… I think it’s the water temp / color they live in, deep Clear Purple / Blue, Warm kine wata…<br>Some will be the normal greenish, Most All here will be Blue’ish in the beginning of the fight.<br><br>It’ll fade to the green / yellow though afta dead, this pix is a fresh one, what they look like Right when brought in.<br>This one shows the darker bars they can have, tough ta get them in a photo as they fade fast, I was very happy to see this pix…. It’s a good one.<br><br>This one was Extra special…<br>I have been eating Wahoo 4 nights a week & `MaN !!! what a nice surprise ta eat Fresh Mahi in July.<br>Mahi are a winter fish in Hawaii for the most part, Wahoo in the summer, `water temp.<br><br>We were trolling & a Bull Mahi took the long rigger, on a 50, as the gent from Utah was reeling it in, I saw this female following it in.<br>So, I braught in the 30 lb. outfit & slapped a slab of scad on it & dropped it back, <br>The female stayed with the Bull all the way to the boat & ignored the slab, I let it back farther & reeled it in quick so it would skip, then this female came to it & ate it.<br><br>I had the gent put the 50 in the rod holder & take over the 30 lb. outfit with the female, Great FUN !!!<br>I gaffed & boxed the Bull fast & it was Off to the Races after this mahi on 30 lb.<br>Once it slowed, I took the boat out a gear & watched as the gent from Utah Caught her…<br>This was a special fish, a perfect match up with tackle, a single guy from the high desert, that never fished the salt & relatively calm waters…<br><br>He also got a 35 lb. Wahoo & a 200 lb. Bronze Whaler that day, & the two Mahi, 24 & 30lb., the wahoo was on a Stand Up 50 & the whaler was on the Stand Up 30 lb. outfit, my much used 3/0… an hour of Hard pulling…. This female Mahi was the most fun, she jumped Plenty, went deep, screamed on the surface where we could watch… did it all… A Great fish..!<br><br>Luckily, the bait leader was 150 lb. mono with this Mahi, by the time she got boat side, she’d almost chewed thru…<br>We took the pix soon after bringing her on board.<br><br>Aloha from Kauai Folks...
