Hello,
I am new here and signed up because I need some help. I enjoy fishing for catfish, well I enjoy taking my wife and two girls to catfish and they enjoy it. The only problem is I do not have a boat and find it difficult finding places to take the family where we can get close to the water and set up and enjoy the day. I live in DeRidder, Louisiana and am willing to drive but need assistance on where to go.

I can't quite help you with your location as far as where you live. But if your limited to bank fishing I would suggest river fishing and throw lines along with your rods to increase your chances of catching cats in any good numbers. The problem that your going to run into is day fishing from a bank, that's when the cats are typically in the deeper waters & it's a little tough without a boat. When fishing for cats from a bank I would reccomend you do it in the evenings, like 7:00pm or later. That's when the cats start coming out of the cover to feed. With that being said, I don't know how young your girls are but night fishing on a river bank can get a bit dangerous. My boys had to be atleast 8yrs of age and were able to swim before I let them come night river fishing. I don't know if any of this will help you? But it's how I started out many moons ago.

I agree with all of the points previously made. I fished from the shore for a couple of years early in my "career", but once I spent a few bucks to get a cheap old boat to take out on the river, I was a much happier man. Drop the anchor, turn on some tunes, sit there and wait for a bite. Less snags, less worry about "where did I put that box of hooks" "where did my kid go...Hey, get over here!" hehe
