Corona Lake Tube/Toon report
#1
I met up with a few of our local BFT members to do some fishing at Corona Lake in So.Cal.

Members present: Myself, Dryrod, Macfly55, macLarry and Bendopolo.

After hitting Mickey Ds for a quick round of Caffeine infusion, we all met up at the lake @6:30am on Sunday 11/18.

Bendopolo and Dryrod came with Tubes in hand.

Macfly, MacLarry and I decided to rent a Pontoon......Boat.

Although there was a 4 to 6mph breeze, Dryrod decided to swat some flies.

Meanwhile, Bendopolo was playing with some frisky LMB

Macfly55 and MacLarry and I were all playing with the local Crappie and Bluegill action.

Macfly55 was just happy to get the skunk off.

Finally Bendopolo came up with the Jackpot fish of the day. A 10 1/2lb Rainbow Trout (Finless Freddie)

Then he made me hold it too.

After fighting such a beast, Bendopolo decided not to fight the stiff afternoon breeze too so he hitched a ride back to the dock with us.

From left to right: Me, Bendopolo and Macfly55.

We left the windy lake around 3:30pm and decided that Mickey Dees was hankering for another round of us.

You will notice that by clicking on the small pictures, it will take you to my photo gallery or Bendopolo's gallery depending upon whom has the credit for the picture.

It was a nice day all in all, everyone caught at least 1 fish and we finally go to meet one our newewt tubing members. (bendopolo)[cool]

By the way, MacLarry (new adopted name) is Macfly55s son in law and came all the way out from TN just to watch us throw boogers and other weird plastics at the fish.[Wink]

... great report bro.. my two cents on this is that it was a great day with old friends.. new friends.. and family.. I want to thank you and bendopolo for the pics... MacLarry and I will have to get copies of the important ones.. (of us.. [Smile])...

btw.. that trout gave up two large fillets that we rubbed with olive oil.. a little salt and pepper.. then wrapped in foil and onto the bbq.. came out tasty.. and flaky.. mix that fish with a steak and some shrimp and a fresh salad and a feast was had by all in my family..

.. have a safe trip to Hi.. and see you in a few weeks for that float trip...

It was a nice trip and a nice bow under most standards. Even for a finless Freddie.

The guy at the scales still laughed at us and told us that Bendopolo caught one of the babies. Go figure.

That lake just so happens to plant Trout from Mt. Lassen Hatchery. The Bows are planted in the 3 to 5lb range with special planting from 10 to 20 + lbs.

I think he did an awesome job compared to my mini Slabs.[cool]

[font "Comic Sans MS"][black][size 4]I swear I thought those PONTOON boats were suppose to ride higher in the water. Good thing there wasn't any waves.[/size][/black][/font]
[font "Comic Sans MS"][black][size 4]Guys look like you have a BLAST, but what happened to Ted?[/size][/black][/font] [font "Comic Sans MS"][black][size 4]Was he the only Fly Swatter for the day? In other words, what were you all using (specially for the big un LOL)

...I cannot tell a lie.. MacLarry and I started out with good intentions and we were using bubble/fly rigs.. then we fell to the dark side (met Darth there).. and used a drop shot?? rig to catch our little guys... I felt guilty right up to the point where I felt the "skunk" smell leave.. [sly]...

... we did see Ted off and on.. he tubed all day as did bendopolo... I know he started out swatting but not sure how he ended up...

I started out with the bubble fly and ended up with the baitcaster and drop shot rig. Bendopolo had his special setup. I don't want to let out his little secret.[cool]

[font "Pristina"][green][size 4][cool]Hey there Flygoddess - eventually I headed to shore. Too much wind blowing my tube & fly line all over the place. I cheated and pulled out my light spinning system.[shocked] Finally caught two crappies and an old can of beans or something like that. Too bad that Macfly took off for I would have given him the canned veggies. His dinner would have been totally free.[/size][/green][/font]

...hey now.. we did ask if you wanted to join us several times.. [Smile].. I am just glad I was able to meet you.. and that you found your fly box..

... btw.. ya'll have to remember that MacLarry and I were [#bf0000][font "Viner Hand ITC"][size 4]PASSENGERS[/size][/font]...[/#bf0000] TN2 was the one who drove the pontoon boat.. [sly]

I remember the name of what bendopolo was using. Since it is a secret, I cannot divulge the name of it to you.

If I do tell you, then I will have to pop your tube immediately after.[shocked] hee hee.[laugh]

As far as extra room goes on the Pontoon, we could have carried 9 passengers just fine.[cool]
