Help with this fishing rod please
#1
I received this fishing rod from my grandmother... it was originally my great-grandfathers. I am new to fishing and i was wondering what this rod was used for... saltwater, fresh water, from boat or shore, deep sea? which type of reel can i put on it? bait casting...spinning? Any information would be awesome. I have asked a few people but they have been no help and brushed me off.

the pictures of the rod can be seen here: http://www.geocities.com/uebermenchens/

Information I have collected:
its a little longer than 6'6"
it only has 3 guides
it is made out of fiber glass

Thanks very much

[green]Hi there Marky_sparks and welcome to the BFT. I would be inclined to say that the rod would be used for salt water fishing. Tried a bit of research but obviously the company was either bought out, changed it's name or just went out of business. It is not a practical rod for a bait caster or spinning reel. I have an old Penn reel like the one shown below that would be an appropriate fit for your rod. My reason for saying that is because I have a glass salt water rod that I used with the Penn many years ago. I used it both from a boat & piers. Sorry that I couldn't be more helpful. Perhaps someone else will stop by and offer their comments re your rod. Do stop by again & thanks for your post. [/green]

That brings back some good memorys. That rod is for salt water use as Dryrod said and the reel he shows is a good choice. My first rig was that color rod and it's for larger fish like blues, stripers ect. Boat or pier use only. Hope you keep up the tradition Grandpa started.

I dont think you are ready to put new eyes on your rod, so some care is going to be required..

waxing those eyes will help stop the rust pitting, wax it after every use. especialy when you are putting it a way for a few weeks...

it will also reduce any friction on the line.

bees wax, any candle wax... "not car wax"

we use rods like that for trolling in the great lakes. fishing off the board walks along the detroit and st clair rivers where the current is pretty heavy...

best to use the reel mentoned in prior replys...... you will be further ahead if you do...
