create your own bait pod
#1
with some kinds of fishing, like for king mackerel, live baiting is the only way to go. However, how many times have we thrown a handful of frisky baits overboard only to have them run back to the shelter of the boat, and out of the reach of wary kings.
One solution(which takes time and practice) is to create your own bait pod. We are all accustomed to the live bait set up of a single hook on coffee colored wire with a stinger hook trailing behind. All you have to do is make a rig of about of about 4 single hooks, each on about 6 inches of single strand wire. They are connected to each other in a long line with a stinger at the end. The first hook faces left and the hook faces the opposite direction and so on. you attach four lively baits and GENTLY lower them over board, making sure that they are swimming properly. Drop them back, what happens is that when you throw baits overboard they will all start congregating around these baits, creating your own bait pod. Kings usually slash into them without hesitation.
This method requires patience and a fair amount of bait. But it works when the baits are scattered by bringing bait fish, and big fish together. Also you can usually go up in line test, but that is a matter of personal preference.
