I had that same question last friday, so I called DWR, they transferred me to state parks, I spoke to a female named Carol and she said as long as you stay on the boat ramps or on the lake itself it is totally legal...

Does anyone know how thick the ice is? I haven't seen it posted anywhere.

I covered better than 1/2 the lake and found plenty of 8-12" solid ice everywhere i went. Stay away from the edges that have water on top of the ice and pressure ridges. You will be fine.[]
