B-Fast Charters were able to get out three days this week---a record for this spring season. The split charter of New Yorkers was into some great fishing in the shoal-water on Monday. Peter Casanas and friend from New York, NY, Dave Johnson from East Port and Bob Steinman from Farmingdale made quick-work catching limits of scrod and

Friday’s eastly wind forecast was marginal at best. Nevertheless, Joseph Angeloni’s group from Milltown, NJ braved the morning chop to fish Stellwagen’s shoal water. Due to the minus tide in the morning, we opted to leave late and fish the last of the incoming tide. The seas were much calmer on top of the bank. The codfish were again grubbing on the bottom for clams as no bait fish are in evidence. So once again, skimmers, fished with little movement, tight to the bottom produced the best results. Joe, Mike and Joe II were pulling in doubles of market cod. I located a small patch of bottom holding the cod in 136 feet of water. Drifting repeatedly of the patch produced enough cod between 8 and 15 pounds to fill the anglers limits with very few throw-backs—5 for the day. Mike’s 15 pounder was the pool-winner.

Today, Saturday, four of B-Fast’s vessels were able to get out. Cezar Gawel’sb annual two-boat charter from Morgenville, NJ was close to the limit, filling the boxes with medium cod to 15 pounds, when I spoke with Capt. Al on the JANET B at noon.

Once again, the shoal-water between 125-140 feet produced best on the incoming tide using clam-baits. Paul Shipper’s group from Wilmington, DE and Chris Leek from N. Massapequa, NY had the same results on the KAAMA and DECISIVE with mostly Markets filling the boxes.
