Lebanon (WTNH) _ The DEP and State Police investigate a possible bobcat attack in Lebanon.

According to Dennis Schain, of the DEP, they were alerted by State Police about a possible bobcat attack Saturday, around 7 PM. Patrick Reihl, 14, was attacked in his yard by an animal.

The boy had scratches and tears in his clothing. There is a strong possibility that it was a bobcat that attacked him.

According to DEP, if it was a bobcat that attacked the boy, it is likely to have rabies, because a bobcat would not typically go near people -- it would stay away.

The animal is probably in the late stages of rabies. If it is not found, it will die in the next few days.

The boy was treated by emergency personnel and didn't have to be hospitalized. However, he is undergoing rabies treatment as a precaution. Neighbors are being asked to contact local authorities or DEP if they spot a suspicious animal.
