FWP offers ladies-only hunting, firearms safety classes

BILLINGS - A hunter education and firearms safety class specifically for women, and taught by women, is scheduled in Billings in May. Registration is required at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, at the FWP Region 5 office, 2300 Lake Elmo Dr. in Billings.

The classes will run from 6:30 to 9 p.m. May 5, 7, 9, 12 14 and 16 at the FWP office. On Saturday, May 17, the students will meet at the Yellowstone Rifle Club, 7140 Molt Road, from 8 to 11:30 a.m. for shooting and a field day.

Participants must be at least 18 years old. All instructors are certified hunter safety education volunteers.

Students will learn about firearm safety for the home and field as well as basic hunting, survival and shooting skills. Those who complete the class and pass the test will earn a Montana hunter safety card, which is required before anyone born after Jan. 1, 1985, can buy a Montana hunting license.

The classes, field day and all materials are free for Montana women.
