LINCOLN, Neb. - The final phase of the Bowling Lake rehabilitation project in Lincoln will begin in a few weeks, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
The project will include additional excavation, shoreline reshaping and stabilization, a new land connection to the island and a new pump with a filter in Oak Creek to fill the lake. Related work will include improving angler access along the lake's shoreline and improving the boat ramp.
The lake is expected to be ready for fishing in three years, following the restocking of largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie and channel catfish.
The Aquatic Rehabilitation, similar in scope to recent Lincoln-area projects at Wagon Train State Recreation Area, Olive Creek, Yankee Hill WMA, and Holmes Park lakes, primarily is funded from the Nebraska Aquatic Habitat Stamp. Other funding sources include the Nebraska Environmental Trust, Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (an Environmental Protection Agency grant) and the Commission (Game Cash Fund). The City of Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department is matching in-kind services.
