Help with mounting thru-hull transducer
#1
Hi all!
I got a new boat and want to mount the new fishfinder. But I don't really want to drill through the transom for the FF cable and don't really want to mount the transducer on the transom either.

I know it is possible to epoxy the transducer inside the hull and have it shoot thru the fiberglass. But I have a few questions...

1. From what I have read I will get some signal degradation because of the fiberglass. But how much? Anyone with any experience here?
2. Will the temperature still work somewhat accurately? Is seems unlikely that the water temp reading will be accurate if the transducer is in the engine compartment?

Any other advice or suggestions on this topic? Thanks!

IF DONE RIGHT YOU SHOULD NOT GET ANY KIND OF INTERFERENCE, AND THE TEMP STILL SHOULD READ CORRECTLY, BUT ALL THIS DEPENDS ON THE QUALITY OF THE UNIT ALSO....EVER NOTICE A BOAT WITH MORE THAN 1 FINDER ON IT USUALLY HAS DIFFERENT TEMPERTURE READINGS FROM ONE UNIT TO THE NEXT

[#000000][/#000000]You have reached a major decision in life. It's harder to drill those holes than pulling teeth.

I would suggest that you just bite the bullet like we all have done, and set it on the transom. By doing this, you will be able to make directional adjustments on the receiver, have accuracy in your temperature and speed.

To avoid the drilling in the transom, you can epoxy a mounting plate on the transom.

It is a garmin 250C FF. The boat is a Ski Centurion Avalanche (I know booo-hisssssss..... don't worry, being a fisherman I know how to stay the heck away from fishermen when doing water sports).

Transducers on the transom of an expensive ski/wakeboard not only look bad but effect the wake for wakeboarding and wakesurfing.

This boat is a multi-purpose family boat that gets equal time fishing and doing water sports. With the price of these boats I would rather not drill any holes in it at this point, but would like to get a good clean signal for vertical jigging.

To provide you with the best information available, I have referenced two web sites with related information for the transducer mounting.

There is also additional information, if you go into your browser, and type "Transducer Mounting".

Hope this helps.
